Montserrat Abbey
Barcelona, Spain

Work of the SJBVC

Located in the breathtaking mountains of Montserrat, Spain, the Montserrat Abbey offers a unique volunteering opportunity for those interested in working with the choir school and supporting its mission of nurturing young talent. As a volunteer at Montserrat, you'll have the chance to work alongside the staff of the choir school, assisting as dorm supervisors, recreation coordinators, and English language tutors for the choirboys.

As a dorm supervisor, you'll help ensure that the choirboys have a safe and comfortable living environment, overseeing their day-to-day needs and providing guidance and support as needed. As a recreation coordinator, you'll have the opportunity to organize and lead fun and engaging activities for the boys during their free time, promoting teamwork, socialization, and personal growth.

In addition to these roles, you'll also have the opportunity to serve as an English language tutor for the choirboys, helping them improve their language skills and enhance their future opportunities. Whether you're a native English speaker or simply passionate about language learning, this role will allow you to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people and contribute to a vital educational mission.

One unique aspect of volunteering at Montserrat is the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and language. While volunteers generally do not speak Spanish around the monastery, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore the vibrant city of Barcelona, just a short distance away. From its rich history and stunning architecture to its world-renowned food and wine, Barcelona offers an unforgettable experience for those looking to broaden their horizons and explore new perspectives.

At Montserrat Abbey, you'll be part of a welcoming community of volunteers and staff, all committed to supporting the choir school and its students. Whether you're looking to gain valuable experience in education, language learning, or youth development, or simply want to give back to a worthy cause, Montserrat Abbey offers a unique and fulfilling volunteer opportunity.
