Work of the SJBVC

Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles, located in the beautiful city of Cuernavaca, Mexico, offers a unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity for those looking to make a difference in the lives of others while immersing themselves in Mexican culture and tradition. As a volunteer at Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles, you'll have the chance to work alongside high school students and monks, sharing your knowledge and skills to help them succeed.

One of the primary roles of volunteers at Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles is teaching English to high school students and monks. Through engaging and interactive lessons, you'll help them develop their language skills and enhance their future opportunities in education and beyond. Whether you're a native English speaker or simply passionate about language learning, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact and connect with students and monks from diverse backgrounds.

In addition to teaching English, volunteers also have the opportunity to coach sports, helping students develop teamwork, discipline, and a love of physical activity. You may also have the chance to harvest coffee, an important source of income for the monastic community, or make candles, a traditional craft that has been practiced for centuries.

Through all of these roles, volunteers at Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles play a vital role in supporting the maintenance of the monastic community. Whether you're helping with landscaping and gardening, repairing buildings and equipment, or performing administrative tasks, your contributions will help ensure that the community can continue to thrive and serve its members and the surrounding community.

Outside of your volunteer work, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore the vibrant city of Cuernavaca, with its rich history, stunning architecture, and delicious cuisine. From exploring the many museums and galleries to hiking in the nearby mountains, Cuernavaca offers a wealth of cultural and natural experiences to enrich your time in Mexico.

At Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles, you'll be part of a welcoming and supportive community of volunteers and staff, all committed to serving and learning from one another. Whether you're looking to gain valuable experience in education, sports coaching, or community development, or simply want to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others, Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles offers a unique and fulfilling volunteer opportunity.
